Florida State Rep. Christine Hunschofsky's (D-Parkland) legislation regrading public records for recording notification service was signed into law at the beginning of May.
The bill, HB283, will make any email addresses, phone numbers, personal or business names, and parcel identification numbers that are submitted to a clerk or property appraiser exempt from any public disclosure requirements.
“This law is about trust," Rep. Hunschofsky said. "We want people to have peace of mind that they can use these services without compromising their privacy."
The Recording Notification Service is an optional program which notifies registered property owners via email of any property conveyance or property encumbrance documents that are entered into public records. The recorded documents can be monitored by various identifiers until the subscriber modifies or chooses to unsubscribe from the service.
“I am very thankful to Representative Hunschofsky for filing this legislation to protect the personal information of property owners enrolled in a free deed recording notification service," Broward County Property Appraiser Marty Kiar said. "This excellent legislation will help safeguard registered property owners from becoming victims of fraud."
