The Florida Division of Emergency Management announced today that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved Leon County for Individual Assistance following the severe weather and tornadoes in May 2024. Homeowners and renters who experienced losses can now apply for FEMA Individual Assistance, which may include financial aid for temporary lodging, basic home repairs, and other disaster-related expenses.
“The Division is committed to ensuring the most assistance possible is available to disaster survivors,” said Division Executive Director Kevin Guthrie. “I encourage homeowners and renters in Leon County to start their FEMA application immediately to ensure they don’t miss any federal assistance deadlines and give themselves ample time to receive all support possible on their road to recovery.”
Leon County is the only county approved for FEMA Individual Assistance due to impacts from the May severe weather. However, Baker, Gadsden, Hamilton, Lafayette, Liberty, Madison, Suwannee, Taylor, and Wakulla counties have been approved for FEMA Public Assistance. This form of assistance provides state, local, tribal and territorial governments as well as certain private non-profit organizations with help for emergency work and the repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities that are not privately owned.
To apply for FEMA disaster assistance, individuals can visit DisasterAssistance.gov, download the FEMA app for smartphones or call 800-621-3362. Lines are open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. local time, seven days a week.
