Yesterday, the State Board of Education implemented regulations to limit the use of public funds for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs, activities, and policies in the Florida College Systems. Additionally, in an effort to provide students with a factual account of the nation’s past, the State Board of Education also replaced the course “Principles of Sociology” with a general education course in American History.
“The James Madison Institute applauds the Florida Department of Education’s efforts to put a stop to ideologically-driven programs that elevate intersectional grievances over scholarly merit. We also affirm the Department’s renewed emphasis on the teaching of American History, especially the founding ideals that animate our nation’s ongoing quest to become a more perfect union,” said William Mattox, Director of the Marshall Center for Educational Options at The James Madison Institute.
