Patricia Spears named future leader by national healthcare association

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Health Care Association (FHCA) has announced that FHCA Secretary Patricia Spears, who also serves as the Florida Regional Administrator and Government Affairs Director with Topaz Fiscal Services, has been selected by the American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) as a future leader in long-term and post-acute care. Spears is among 39 individuals nationwide chosen to participate in AHCA/NCAL’s Future Leaders program, which offers year-long training and mentorship for professionals in these fields.

"This recognition is a testament to Patricia’s tremendous leadership and dedication to the long-term care profession," said Emmett Reed, FHCA CEO. "Patricia will bring exceptional insight to the program that she’s gained throughout her career and through her service to FHCA. I am confident that her experience in this prestigious program will benefit the association and the members we serve."

Based in Jacksonville, Spears has over 25 years of experience in long-term care. She began her career as a social worker before earning her nursing home administrator’s license. Her passion for caring and leadership led to active involvement with FHCA. Currently serving as Secretary of the Board of Directors, Spears is also Vice Chair of the Annual Conference Committee, a former Legislative Committee Chair, and has served as an FHCA District President.

A graduate of FHCA’s Florida Leaders program, Spears is recognized for her advocacy on behalf of residents, frontline caregivers, and fellow long-term care professionals. She frequently visits lawmakers both in their districts and at the Florida Capitol and has testified before the Legislature to ensure that voices from long-term care are heard. Known for championing exceptional care for Florida’s seniors, she has managed several high-quality centers throughout her career. In 2021, Spears received FHCA’s highest honor: the Walter M. Johnson Jr., Circle of Excellence Award.

Spears joins other notable members of the FHCA Executive Committee who have participated in AHCA/NCAL's “Future Leaders of Long-Term Care in America” program:
