JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Today, FloridaCommerce announced that the Jacksonville area’s private sector jobs increased by 13,200 jobs (+1.9 percent) over the year in May 2024. The area's labor force grew by 0.3 percent (+2,157) over the same period. The Jacksonville area unemployment rate was 3.0 percent in May 2024, marking a 0.2 percentage point increase from the May 2023 rate of 2.8 percent.
In May 2024, the education and health services industry sector saw the largest job gains over the year, adding 5,800 jobs since May 2023.
Florida's private sector job growth rate continues to exceed the national rate, with a 2.2 percent increase (+192,000) compared to the national private sector job growth rate of 1.6 percent. In May 2024, the construction sector led all major industries in job gains, adding 5,500 jobs (+0.8 percent) from the previous month. This was followed by the education and health services sector, which added 2,700 jobs (+0.2 percent).
