Deadline approaches for Floridians to apply for FEMA storm assistance

Floridians who sustained losses from the severe storms and tornadoes on May 10 have one month remaining to apply for federal assistance. The deadline for applications is August 19, 2024.

Following the disaster declaration, FEMA has approved $5.6 million in assistance to affected households.

Residents of Leon County impacted by the May 10 events may be eligible for FEMA financial aid covering temporary lodging, basic home repairs, personal property losses, and other uninsured disaster-related expenses.

To apply, individuals can call toll-free at 800-621-3362, visit DisasterAssistance.gov, download the FEMA App, or go to a Disaster Recovery Center. The telephone line operates daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. ET with support available in most languages. Users of relay services should provide their service number when contacting FEMA. An accessible video explaining the application process is available on YouTube under "Three Ways to Apply for FEMA Disaster Assistance."
