FloridaCommerce has reported a 1.1% increase in total nonagricultural employment for the Pensacola metro area in June 2024, translating to an addition of 2,200 jobs over the past year. The private sector in Pensacola saw a growth of 1,500 jobs, or 0.9%, during the same period.
The unemployment rate in the Pensacola area rose to 3.7% in June 2024, up by 0.5 percentage points from June 2023's rate of 3.2%. Additionally, the labor force in Pensacola decreased by 945 individuals over the year, representing a decline of 0.4%. The education and health services sector experienced the most significant job growth, adding 800 positions.
Statewide, Florida's economic indicators show continued strength and stability. The state’s private sector employment grew by 172,700 jobs (2.0%) over the year since June 2023, outpacing the national private sector job growth rate of 1.5%. In June 2024 alone, the professional and business services sector led with an addition of 6,000 jobs (+0.4%), followed closely by education and health services with an increase of 5,500 jobs (+0.4%). Over the same period, Florida’s labor force expanded by approximately 66,000 individuals (+0.6%).
"Job creators continue to demonstrate great confidence in Florida’s economic ecosystem through their investments," said a spokesperson for FloridaCommerce.
The report also highlighted that more than 394,000 job openings were posted online across Florida as of June. Floridians seeking employment can access resources through the CareerSource Florida network for assistance with job searches and skill development at no cost.
