ORLANDO, Fla. — FloridaCommerce announced today that the Orlando area private sector employment increased by 15,300 jobs (+1.1%) over the year in June 2024. The industry sectors gaining the most jobs were trade, transportation, and utilities (+4,500 jobs), and education and health services (+4,300 jobs).
The total nonagricultural employment in the Orlando area rose by 17,500 jobs (+1.2%) since June 2023. The unemployment rate for June 2024 was 3.5%, up from 3.1% in June 2023. The labor force decreased by 0.5% (-7,456) over the same period.
Florida’s overall economic data indicates continued strength and stability with total private sector employment growing by 172,700 jobs (2.0%) over the year since June 2023, outpacing the national private sector job growth rate of 1.5%.
In June 2024, the professional and business services sector added the most jobs among all major industries with an increase of 6,000 jobs (+0.4%) from the previous month, followed by education and health services which added 5,500 jobs (+0.4%). Florida’s labor force grew by 66,000 (+0.6%) over the year since June 2023.
"Job creators continue to demonstrate great confidence in Florida’s economic ecosystem through their investments," said a spokesperson for FloridaCommerce.
