JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — FloridaCommerce announced that the Jacksonville Metro Area’s total nonagricultural employment increased by 12,100 jobs (+1.5%) over the year in June 2024. The area's total private sector jobs rose by 9,400 jobs (+1.3%) over the same period.
The unemployment rate in Jacksonville was 3.6% in June 2024, marking a 0.4 percentage point increase from the June 2023 rate of 3.2%. The labor force in the area decreased by 1,675 (-0.2%) over the year. Notably, the education and health services industry sector gained the most jobs, adding 3,900 positions since June 2023.
Statewide data also showed economic strength and stability as Florida's total private sector employment grew by 172,700 jobs (2.0%) over the year since June 2023, outpacing the national private sector job growth rate of 1.5%.
In June 2024, the professional and business services sector led job gains among major industries in Florida with an addition of 6,000 jobs (+0.4%) from the previous month. This was followed by education and health services which added 5,500 jobs (+0.4%). The state's labor force expanded by 66,000 (+0.6%) over the year since June 2023.
"Job creators continue to demonstrate great confidence in Florida’s economic ecosystem through their investments," said a spokesperson for FloridaCommerce. These investments are creating high-skill, high-wage jobs that enhance Florida's competitiveness as a place to live and work.
