Fort Lauderdale sees significant job growth across multiple sectors

FloridaCommerce announced today that the Fort Lauderdale metro area leads in job gains over the year in trade, transportation, and utilities (+5,100 jobs); government (+4,200 jobs); and other services (+4,100 jobs). The area’s total nonagricultural employment in June 2024 was 925,500, an increase of 21,100 jobs (+2.3%) over the year. The Fort Lauderdale area’s private sector employment in June 2024 rose by 2.1% (+16,900 jobs) over the year.

The Fort Lauderdale area unemployment rate was 3.4% in June 2024, up by 0.4 percentage points from the June 2023 rate of 3.0%. The area's labor force increased by 6,968 individuals or 0.6% over the year.

Florida's economic data continues to indicate strength and stability as the state’s total private sector employment grew by 172,700 jobs (2.0%) since June 2023. This growth outpaced the national private sector job growth rate of 1.5% over the same period.

In June 2024, the professional and business services sector gained the most jobs among all major industries with an addition of 6,000 jobs (+0.4%) from the previous month. This was followed by education and health services which added 5,500 jobs (+0.4%). Florida’s labor force grew by approximately 66,000 individuals or +0.6% since June 2023.

"Job creators continue to demonstrate great confidence in Florida’s economic ecosystem through their investments," stated a representative from FloridaCommerce.
