Miami leads U.S. metro areas in private sector job growth

FloridaCommerce announced today that the Miami metro area gained the most private sector jobs over the year among all metro areas, adding 35,100 jobs (+3.0%) in June 2024. The area's labor force increased by 2.2% (+30,037) over the same period. Notably, Miami led all metro areas in job gains in three industry sectors: leisure and hospitality (8,400 jobs), professional and business services (8,100 jobs), and construction (5,800 jobs).

The Miami area's unemployment rate was 2.7% in June 2024, up from 1.9% a year ago.

Statewide, Florida's total private sector employment grew by 172,700 jobs (2.0%) since June 2023, outpacing the national private sector job growth rate of 1.5%. In June 2024 alone, the professional and business services sector added the most jobs among major industries with an increase of 6,000 jobs (+0.4%), followed by education and health services with an addition of 5,500 jobs (+0.4%). Florida's labor force expanded by 66,000 (+0.6%) over the past year.
