Mandatory early voting period announced for Florida's 2024 primary election

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. –

Secretary of State Cord Byrd has announced the mandatory early voting period for the 2024 primary election in Florida, scheduled from August 10 to August 17, 2024.

“Early voting is a convenient and secure method of casting a ballot. All registered Florida voters have the option to vote at any early voting site within the county where they are registered,” said Secretary Byrd. “Early voting in Florida will be open from August 10 through August 17, 2024. As allowed by law, some counties are offering optional days of early voting.”

Early Voting allows individuals to cast their ballots before Election Day at designated locations managed by the Supervisor of Elections. The process and equipment used are identical to those on Election Day.

Florida's status as a closed primary state means that only voters registered with political parties can vote for their respective party candidates in primary elections. However, all qualified voters, regardless of party affiliation or lack thereof, can participate in specific races on a primary election ballot:

- Races where all candidates share the same party affiliation and face no opposition in the general election.

- Nonpartisan judicial and school board offices.

- Nonpartisan special districts and other local offices.

- Local referendum questions.

The Division of Elections provides details on early voting dates, times, and locations for all counties on its website. Voters can also reach out to their local Supervisor of Elections office for more information.

Additionally, daily online statistics on early voting and vote-by-mail are posted based on reports filed by Supervisors of Elections.

Florida voters have three options to cast their votes: by mail, during early voting periods, or at polling stations on Election Day. For further information about these options or any other queries related to elections, voters are encouraged to contact their local Supervisor of Elections office or visit the Division of Elections’ website at dos.fl.gov/elections.
