Florida Realtors® have issued guidance urging residents to be prepared for the hurricane season by assembling an emergency supply kit that includes nonperishable foods and supplies tailored to meet a family’s and pet’s health and medical needs.
Under a federally declared emergency, residents are entitled to obtain an extra 30-day prescription supply without any price increase, even if the prescriptions were recently filled. Residents are advised to consult with their healthcare providers and pharmacists regarding emergency medication supplies.
For those requiring daily medical assistance such as routine nursing care, help with medication, oxygen therapy, or electricity for life-supporting medical equipment, pre-registration for a special needs shelter is recommended. Information on how to pre-register can be found at FloridaDisaster.org by clicking on “Special Needs Registry.”
Additionally, the FloridaDisaster.org site provides a county-by-county list of special needs shelters. To access this information, navigate through “Plan and Prepare,” then “Access and Functional Needs Planning,” followed by “Evacuations and Shelters,” and finally click on “Important Shelter Information.”
