FloridaCommerce Announces Orlando Gains Second-Highest Number of Private Sector Jobs Over the Year in July 2024 Among All Metro Areas

ORLANDO, Fla. — Today, FloridaCommerce announced the Orlando area gained the second-highest number of private sector jobs over the year in July 2024 among all metro areas. The area’s private sector employment increased by 24,800 jobs (+1.9%) over the year in July 2024. The industry sectors gaining the most jobs were education and health services (+7,400 jobs) and construction (+4,700 jobs).

The Orlando area unemployment rate was 3.7% in July 2024, up 0.6 percentage points from the July 2023 rate of 3.1%. The labor force was down 0.2% (-3,001) over the year since July 2023.

Florida’s unemployment rate continues to remain lower than the nation, with a rate of 3.3% in July 2024, a full percentage point lower than the national rate of 4.3%. Florida’s private sector employment has grown by 201,500 jobs (+2.3%) over the year since July 2023, faster than the national rate of 1.5 percent over the same time period.

In July 2024, the leisure and hospitality sector gained the most jobs among all major industries adding 11,200 jobs (+0.9%) from the previous month, followed by construction, adding 6,300 jobs (+1.0%). Florida’s labor force grew by 35,000 (+0.3%) over the year since July 2023.
