West Palm Beach sees significant employment growth in private sector

FloridaCommerce Announces West Palm Beach Area Private Sector Employment Increases by 10,700 Jobs Over the Year in July 2024

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Today, FloridaCommerce announced that the West Palm Beach metro area private sector employment increased by 10,700 jobs (+1.7%) over the year in July 2024. The industry sector gaining the most jobs was education and health services, increasing by 4,100 jobs.

The West Palm Beach area unemployment rate was 3.8% in July 2024, up 0.5 percentage points from 3.3% in July 2023. The West Palm Beach metro area labor force was down 0.2% (-1,276) over the year in July 2024.

Florida’s unemployment rate continues to remain lower than the nation, with a rate of 3.3% in July 2024, a full percentage point lower than the national rate of 4.3%. Florida’s private sector employment has grown by 201,500 jobs (+2.3%) over the year since July 2023, faster than the national rate of 1.5 percent over the same time period.

In July 2024, the leisure and hospitality sector gained the most jobs among all major industries adding 11,200 jobs (+0.9%) from the previous month, followed by construction which added 6,300 jobs (+1.0%). Florida’s labor force grew by 35,000 (+0.3%) over the year since July 2023.
