Today, Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez announced the winners of the 2024 Florida Space Art Contest, highlighting creativity among young students. The contest received nearly 2,600 submissions from K-5 students across Florida.
Lieutenant Governor Nuñez expressed her satisfaction with the high level of participation: “I am pleased to announce the finalists of the Third Annual Florida Space Art Contest,” she said. “Since the creation of the contest, we have received nearly 6,600 submissions, with a record-breaking number this year alone.”
Rob Long, President and CEO of Space Florida, commended the participants: “Seeing the creativity and imagination displayed by these young artists in designing Florida’s future spacesuits is truly inspiring,” he noted. Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz Jr. also congratulated this year's winners and emphasized Florida's rich history in space exploration.
The contest required students to submit original two-dimensional artwork based on this year's theme: Suit Up! Florida’s Space Suit of the Future. Submissions were divided into two categories: K–2 and 3–5. Six finalists were selected from each group and awarded tickets to Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.
The grand prize winners are Gabriel Angeli from Lowry Elementary School and Natalie Kimtia from Christ’s Church Academy. Their artwork will be launched into space on an upcoming mission.
Lieutenant Governor Nuñez extended her congratulations to all participants: “Congratulations to the two grand prize winners,” she said. She also acknowledged contributions from sponsors including SpaceX, Space Florida, and various state departments.
