Florida Chamber praises defeat of Amendment 3 backed by marijuana company

The Florida Chamber of Commerce has expressed approval following the defeat of Amendment 3. Mark Wilson, President and CEO of the Florida Chamber of Commerce, stated, “Amendment 3 was bad for Florida and even worse for Floridians.” He added that it was detrimental to children, communities, local businesses, and the state overall. The Chamber aligned with Governor DeSantis to rally community and business leaders against the amendment.

Despite significant financial backing from a marijuana company aiming to influence constitutional changes, voters in Florida rejected Amendment 3. The proposal sought to introduce measures similar to those in California and Colorado but was ultimately unsuccessful. The Florida Chamber took proactive steps by launching an educational website, www.FLBizAgainstA3.com, aimed at informing local businesses about potential negative impacts. They also collaborated with Governor DeSantis, First Lady Casey DeSantis, law enforcement leaders, and local businesses through webinars and roundtables to educate voters.

The Florida Chamber has consistently opposed efforts to integrate drug-related measures into the state constitution via ballot initiatives. They have pledged ongoing efforts to protect the constitution by opposing amendments they deem unsuitable for inclusion in Florida’s foundational document.
