JAXPORT drives economic growth with diverse shipping capabilities

JAXPORT, Florida's largest container port by volume, is recognized as one of the nation's leading vehicle-handling ports. The port operates three cargo terminals, two intermodal rail terminals, and a passenger cruise terminal along the St. Johns River. It handles a variety of specialty cargos such as breakbulk, fresh and frozen goods, forest products, high and heavy loads, U.S. Military shipments, and project cargo.

Numerous ocean carriers use JAXPORT to provide competitive transit times to 140 ports across more than 70 countries. JAXPORT offers services to major world regions with direct container service connections to Asia, Europe, South America, the Caribbean, and Central America. Leading ocean carrier alliances offer regular services through both the Panama and Suez canals.

The Blount Island Marine Terminal features a 47-foot deepwater shipping channel and a new turning basin for larger ships. Recent berth enhancements costing $100 million allow for simultaneous accommodation of two post-Panamax ships. An additional $72 million in yard improvements are underway to expand Blount Island’s container-handling capacity.

JAXPORT is strategically located near major Interstate highways I-10, I-75, and I-95, providing access to over 98 million consumers within a day's drive. It is served by over 100 trucking firms and 40 daily trains via Class I railroads CSX and Norfolk Southern as well as the regional Florida East Coast Railway.

In terms of environmental initiatives, JAXPORT leads globally in using liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a marine fuel. It hosts four LNG-powered ships and two LNG-fueling barges and is the only U.S. East Coast port offering on-dock and near-dock LNG fueling capabilities.

Additionally, Jacksonville serves as a central drive-to cruise market with the Carnival Elation ship offering cruises to the Bahamas from this location.

JAXPORT significantly contributes to Northeast Florida’s economy with its cargo and cruise operations supporting 138,000 jobs in Florida and generating an annual economic impact of $31.1 billion.
