Flags lowered in memory of two officers after fatal crash

On November 21, 2024, Corporal Luis Paez and Deputy Sheriff Ralph Waller lost their lives in a car crash. Corporal Paez had been serving his community since 1988, initially as a Corrections Deputy before transitioning to a Motor Deputy role for over two decades. Deputy Sheriff Waller previously served with the Royal Palm Beach Police Department before joining the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office in 2008.

Governor Ron DeSantis issued a memorandum directing that flags be flown at half-staff to honor these officers' service and sacrifice. "As a mark of respect," stated Governor DeSantis, "I hereby direct the flags of the United States and the State of Florida to be flown at half-staff at all local and state buildings, installations, and grounds throughout Palm Beach County from 3:00 p.m. to sunset, today, Friday, November 22, 2024, and from sunrise to sunset on Tuesday, December 3, 2024."

Corporal Paez and Deputy Sheriff Waller are remembered for their dedication and bravery in serving their communities.
