Flags to fly at half-staff for three fallen officers in Palm Beach County

On November 22, 2024, Governor Ron DeSantis directed flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of Corporal Luis Paez and Deputy Sheriff Ralph Waller. Both officers were killed in a car crash. Another officer involved in the incident, Deputy Sheriff Ignacio Diaz, succumbed to his injuries on November 25, 2024.

Governor DeSantis noted that "Diaz honorably served the citizens of Palm Beach County since joining the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office in 2004." He added that Diaz "will be remembered as a hero who served nobly and protected his community."

The governor's initial directive to lower the flags was scheduled for December 3, 2024. It will now include honoring Deputy Sheriff Ignacio Diaz along with the other two officers.

Flags of both the United States and the State of Florida will be lowered from sunrise to sunset across Palm Beach County on this day.
