TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—Attorney General Ashley Moody has issued advice for Floridians to prevent falling victim to charity fraud on Giving Tuesday. This day is a popular occasion for charitable donations, with Americans contributing over $3.1 billion last year.
"Many Floridians feel called to give during the holiday season, especially on Giving Tuesday. To help ensure these donations go to the intended cause, I’m issuing tips to help Floridians avoid charity scams today and through the entirety of the holiday season," stated Attorney General Moody.
The tips provided by Attorney General Moody include researching charities before donating, being wary of similar-sounding names used by scammers, and being cautious of solicitations from unknown sources. She also advises against sharing sensitive information online and ensuring that online donation websites are secure.
