On November 12, 2024, Governor Ron DeSantis announced plans to open a new SelectFlorida international trade development office in Italy by 2025. This will be the latest addition to SelectFlorida's network of 18 offices across 16 countries. The office aims to assist Italian companies interested in establishing operations in Florida.
Governor DeSantis and Florida leadership met with representatives from three prominent shipyards: Sanlorenzo, Benetti, and Overmarine. These shipyards already have projects or presence in Pensacola, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami. The meetings sought to boost their investment in Florida's ports and expand their operations within the state.
“Florida is greatly expanding its Italian presence, and we are pleased to announce our newest international trade office will be in Italy,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “Our brick-and-mortar presence here will continue the work of this trade mission in bringing more businesses, investment, and trade to Florida.”
The partnership between Florida and Italy spans multiple industries such as transportation, aerospace, defense, and life sciences. Last year’s top traded goods from Florida included yachts, aircraft parts, cars, and pharmaceuticals.
“Under the Governor’s leadership this mission continues to be a success. Today was focused on Florida’s nation-leading yacht building industry—500 ship builders in total—who build more yachts than the rest of the nation combined,” said FloridaCommerce Secretary J. Alex Kelly.
"Although separated by 5,000 miles, Florida and Italian seaports maintain a strong partnership which encourages economic growth," said FDOT Secretary Jared W. Perdue. "FDOT appreciates the leadership and opportunity from Governor DeSantis."
