Florida awards additional bonuses for law enforcement recruits

Today, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced the allocation of 300 new bonuses for law enforcement officers, bringing the total to 6,400 bonuses awarded under the Florida Law Enforcement Recruitment Bonus Payment Program. This initiative began in 2022 and offers a one-time $5,000 bonus after taxes to newly employed officers in the state.

The latest bonuses were given to officers in counties affected by Hurricanes Debby, Helene, and Milton. "Florida welcomes law enforcement officers from across the country to a state where they will be recognized and appreciated," said Governor Ron DeSantis. He emphasized the importance of supporting law enforcement personnel who make significant personal sacrifices for their communities.

Since its inception, more than 1,560 officers from 49 states and two territories have moved to Florida. Over 470 of these recruits came from states such as California, Illinois, and New York. To date, over $43.3 million has been distributed through this program.

"Under Governor DeSantis’ leadership, Florida shows the nation how to support law enforcement," stated Florida Secretary of Commerce J. Alex Kelly. The program highlights Florida's commitment to acknowledging the efforts of law enforcement professionals.

In addition to recruitment bonuses, becoming a law enforcement officer in Florida offers financial stability, career advancement opportunities, health benefits, retirement plans, student loan forgiveness programs, home loan programs, and more.
