Today marked the fourth day of Governor Ron DeSantis's trade mission to Italy, with a focus on Florida's life sciences and health care industries. The state is recognized for its advancements in health care, supported by institutions like Florida State University, the University of South Florida, the University of Florida, and Florida International University.
"Under Governor DeSantis’ leadership Florida is leading innovation in the life sciences industry," stated J. Alex Kelly, Florida Secretary of Commerce. "The conversations had today will forge new Italian partnerships in the health care and life sciences industry, crucial industries for the long-term success of our state."
Florida delegates, including Agency for Health Care Administration Secretary Jason Weida, engaged with leaders from Italy’s life sciences sector. They participated in a roundtable discussion with health care businesses and hospitals to explore potential collaborations.
In addition to healthcare discussions, Governor DeSantis and officials met with representatives from MSC, a major shipping line interested in establishing a direct route between Italy and Jacksonville. This service will include Cosentino, a Spanish company planning to open its first North American manufacturing facility in Jacksonville. Supported by a Governor’s Job Growth Grant Fund and FloridaCommerce, this expansion reflects MSC’s commitment to Florida.
“With Florida seaports serving as key gateways to international markets...FDOT appreciates the leadership and opportunity from Governor DeSantis," said Jared W. Perdue of the FDOT.
Governor DeSantis also met with executives from MAPEI and Pininfarina in Milan. These companies have operations in Florida and represent opportunities for workforce training and apprenticeships within the state.
