Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez has announced the launch of the 2025 Florida Space Art Contest. The contest invites students from kindergarten to fifth grade to create art pieces inspired by the theme: "Liftoff! Florida’s Spaceship of the Future."
“I am thrilled to announce the launch of the Fourth Annual Lieutenant Governor’s Space Art Contest,” stated Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez. “Over the last three years, Florida’s students have shown their overwhelming support and excitement for space through this art contest. This year’s theme gives students creative control to engineer the spaceship of tomorrow. Florida’s rich history of rocket ships and astronauts helped put the first man on the moon, and in the near future, we’ll see others travel to deep space and one day land on Mars. Florida serves as the launch capital of the world, and we are seeing rockets launch at an incredible rate. I am excited to see the innovative and futuristic designs our young artists will bring to life.”
Rob Long, president and CEO of Space Florida, remarked, "The Florida Space Art Contest has become an inspiring tradition, celebrating the creativity and talent of Florida's students as they envision the future of space." He added that this year's challenge is for students to design spacecraft that could journey beyond Earth.
Commissioner Manny Diaz, Jr., emphasized, "The space industry has played a large role in the success of our state, and it is important for students to learn about the history of space exploration," encouraging participation in this educational initiative.
The contest is open to all K–5 grade students in Florida who will submit original two-dimensional artwork based on this year's theme. Submissions are divided into two categories: K–2 and 3–5. Six finalists from each category will be chosen, totaling twelve finalists overall. These finalists will receive tickets to visit Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. Additionally, two grand prize winners—one from each group—will have their artwork launched into space during a future mission.
For those interested in participating, detailed rules and guidelines are available at www.FloridaSpaceArt.com. Artwork submissions should be sent to Space Florida at Exploration Park by May 23, 2025.
