FloridaCommerce has reported the addition of 60,100 private sector jobs in Florida during November 2024. This marks a recovery to pre-hurricane levels following Hurricanes Debby, Helene, and Milton. The state’s unemployment rate remains lower than the national average for 49 consecutive months.
By November 2024, Florida's private sector employment had grown by 25,100 jobs compared to September 2024, before Hurricanes Helene and Milton struck. The state has seen an average increase of 8,733 private sector jobs per month over the last three months. Since May 2020, job creators in Florida have added positions in 51 out of 55 months. In November 2024, Florida's total nonagricultural employment surpassed 10 million jobs for the first time.
"Under Governor DeSantis’ decisive leadership, Florida’s quick bounce-back is evidence of Florida’s commitment to recovery," stated J. Alex Kelly, Secretary of Commerce for Florida. He emphasized efforts such as restoring infrastructure and providing resources immediately after storms as key factors in keeping businesses operational and employees retained.
The leisure and hospitality industry experienced the largest growth in November with an increase of 30,500 jobs (+2.3%), recovering more than it lost in October. The state's unemployment rate stood at 3.4%, slightly up from the previous month but still below the national average of 4.2%.
Since August 2024, over $88 million has been approved through the Florida Small Business Emergency Bridge Loan Program to support more than 2,230 businesses affected by recent hurricanes.
Resources are available for job seekers through platforms like Employ Florida and CareerSource Florida's network offering various services including career counseling and job placement support. Programs like Apprentice Florida aim to expand apprenticeship opportunities across the state while Veterans Florida assists military veterans transitioning to civilian roles.
Data shows there are over 399,000 job listings available online for Floridians seeking employment or new opportunities. These services are offered at no cost to those looking for work.
