The Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA) has expressed support for Representative Harriet Hageman's introduction of the Regulatory Cooling Off Act. This legislation is intended to provide relief from federal regulations, which the FGA claims have increased significantly under the Biden administration.
According to the FGA, regulatory spending and costs have escalated, impacting small businesses with financial uncertainty and high compliance expenses. The proposed act seeks to offer these businesses more time to comply with or contest regulations and aims to slow down the implementation of new mandates.
Stewart Whitson, Senior Director of Federal Affairs for the FGA, stated, “Rep. Hageman’s Regulatory Cooling Off Act is a lifeline for America’s small businesses.” He further criticized President Biden's administration for imposing what he described as burdensome mandates on small businesses. Whitson added that the bill would provide necessary accountability and allow business owners time to adjust or challenge these regulations.
Whitson also emphasized the importance of this reform in supporting entrepreneurs and job creators within the economy: “FGA is grateful to Rep. Hageman for leading the charge to protect America’s small businesses and reinvigorate our economy."
