The proposal includes substantial investments aimed at improving student achievement, supporting educators, and providing expanded opportunities for families.
Nathan Hoffman, Senior Legislative Director of the Foundation for Florida’s Future, stated that "Governor DeSantis’ budget proposal reflects a steadfast commitment to strengthening Florida’s education system and ensuring every student has access to a high-quality education." He added that these investments are intended to support students, families, and educators while contributing to a stronger future for Florida.
The Governor's budget features several key highlights:
- A $1.5 billion investment in teacher salaries represents an increase of nearly $247 million. This aims to maintain Florida's competitiveness in attracting and retaining quality educators.
- An allocation of $1.76 billion is dedicated to early childhood education, including nearly $466 million for the Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten program.
- K-12 public school funding reaches a record $29.7 billion, with $16.1 billion directed towards supporting over 3.2 million students in the public school system.
Additional priorities outlined by the Foundation include:
- Charter schools receive a total capital outlay funding of $240 million.
- The Schools of Hope revolving loan fund sees an increase of $14 million, totaling $20 million.
- The Bright Futures Scholarship Program receives a boost of $15.3 million.
- Pathways programs gain support with a $100 million allocation aimed at work-based learning initiatives.
