The Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA) has expressed support for Representative Gary Palmer's introduction of the New Health Options Act. This legislation aims to provide financial relief to American families and enhance healthcare affordability by creating a parallel individual insurance market alongside the existing ObamaCare marketplace.
According to FGA, this bill will benefit employees through Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangements offered by employers, while independent contractors could access more affordable options. Subsidized exchange plans will remain unchanged under this proposal.
The proposed act includes measures to strengthen market stability through reinsurance and expand provider choice, allowing patients to seek care outside their networks. It also emphasizes price transparency by requiring hospitals and providers to disclose lower cash prices, thus empowering patients with informed decision-making capabilities and potentially reducing costs.
Tarren Bragdon, President and CEO of the Foundation for Government Accountability, stated: “The New Health Options Act is about giving working Americans coverage options that work for them. This parallel marketplace operates alongside the subsidized exchange and offers more tailored, transparent, and cost-effective plans so working individuals and families can choose the coverage that fits their needs at a better price.” He further acknowledged Rep. Palmer's efforts: “I’m grateful to Rep. Palmer for boldly leading the charge on this long overdue health care reform. With this bill, health care affordability is finally within reach.”
The FGA describes itself as a non-profit think tank promoting public policy solutions aimed at providing opportunities for all Americans to achieve the American Dream.
