Florida hospitality and tourism leaders are gathering for Florida Tourism Day, an event celebrating the state's hospitality and tourism industry as a key economic driver. Participants in the event include the Florida Attractions Association, Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association, Florida RV Park & Campground Association, Florida Association of Museums, Destinations Florida, and VISIT FLORIDA.
The day began with a morning program and networking lunch followed by representatives from the tourism sector meeting with lawmakers at the Florida Capitol. The aim is to highlight the positive impact of local tourism on various districts and the quality of life for constituents.
A notable feature of this year's celebration is the inaugural Florida Tourism Day Expo, set to commence at 5 p.m. in downtown Tallahassee. The event will be held on S. Adams Street, between Jefferson Street and College Avenue, and is open to the public at no charge. The expo promises a variety of booths and interactive exhibits, food samples, entertainment, and animal encounters. Attendees can participate in a raffle for Florida-themed prizes by collecting stamps in their Florida Tourism Day Expo Passport.
Tourism plays a critical role in Florida's economy, generating revenue that supports essential services across the state. "Florida residents do not pay a state income tax making Florida one of only eight states without a state income tax," underscoring the substantial financial benefits tourism provides. Additionally, "Every Florida household saves more than $1,900 a year on state and local taxes," thanks to tourism-related income.
The industry's impact extends to employment, with over two million Floridians working in hotels, restaurants, and other tourism-centered businesses. Record-breaking visitor numbers in 2024 reached 142.9 million, generating $127.7 billion in economic impact and supporting 2.1 million jobs in 2023.
Tourism in Florida not only drives the economy but also enhances the quality of life for its residents by providing jobs and funding services like education, public safety, infrastructure, and environmental programs.
