Florida Farm Bureau has submitted comments to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) concerning the review of atrazine, a widely used herbicide. Atrazine is particularly significant for sugarcane and sweet corn cultivation in South Florida.
The counties affected by the watershed map include Hendry, Glades, Palm Beach, and Okeechobee. The proposed changes involve lowering the application rate to 9.8 micrograms per liter (ug/L), alongside additional mitigation requirements for these counties.
These adjustments could pose challenges for producers using atrazine in their agricultural practices.
