The Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA) has called on the U.S. House of Representatives to pass a significant piece of legislation known as the "One, Big, Beautiful Bill." This bill aims to provide tax relief for middle-class and working families, reform welfare systems, and enhance border security.
According to Tarren Bragdon, President and CEO of FGA, “The One, Big, Beautiful Bill is the centerpiece of President Trump’s America First Agenda and a once-in-a-generation opportunity to unleash the next economic boom and launch our country into a new era of growth.” He praised Speaker Johnson and House Republicans for their efforts in advancing the bill.
Bragdon emphasized that the bill represents a major step in reforming welfare by moving able-bodied adults from welfare to work through work requirements for Medicaid and food stamps. He stated that it would also remove 1.4 million illegal aliens from Medicaid. “By ensuring able-bodied adults reenter the workforce, rooting out fraud and abuse, and refocusing welfare programs on the truly needy, this bill puts Americans on a path to independence and opportunity,” he added.
The proposed legislation also seeks to make Trump-era tax cuts permanent while introducing new tax cuts such as no taxes on tips or overtime pay. Bragdon believes these measures will boost domestic energy production and maintain America's status as a global superpower.
Bragdon concluded by saying, “Once again, President Trump and the House have demonstrated their commitment to meaningful reforms that put Americans first and unlock opportunity for everyone.” The Senate is expected to consider its version of this legislation following House approval.
