Tideworks Technology Inc. has completed the deployment of its Traffic Control equipment execution system at Florida International Terminal (FIT), which operates at Port Everglades in South Florida. The implementation aims to improve terminal operations by automating equipment dispatch, balancing workloads, and prioritizing container movements.
Justin Weir, president of Florida International Terminal, commented on the impact of the new system: “Traffic Control has transformed how we manage yard operations. The safety improvements and operational gains we’ve seen in just a few months are helping us strengthen our position as a leading terminal in South Florida. These advancements support our commitment to safer, more efficient service for our customers and the community.”
A key benefit cited is improved safety for drivers. By digitizing equipment moves and interactions through tablets and laptops, drivers can remain inside their vehicles during operations. This process, along with new physical barriers at the site, has led to safer working conditions and faster gate processing times.
The introduction of Traffic Control also replaces previous methods such as radio communication and paper instructions with real-time electronic dispatching. According to Tideworks, this change enhances accuracy and enables terminals to adapt more quickly to operational changes while maintaining higher safety standards.
Thomas Rucker, president of Tideworks Technology, stated: “FIT’s operators have trusted our solutions for nearly 20 years, and we don’t take that lightly. By integrating Traffic Control with both our terminal operating system and gate operations, we’re equipping the operation with the tools needed to reduce unproductive moves, improve truck turn times, and enhance yard safety, enabling experienced teams like FIT’s to drive even greater results.”
FIT already uses several other solutions from Tideworks—including Mainsail 10, Spinnaker Planning Management System, Forecast web portal—and has integrated these with its community portal. The recent addition of Traffic Control provides further digital support aimed at improving real-time visibility into yard performance.
Tideworks managed all aspects of implementation for FIT: project management, software customization and configuration, installation services, integration with existing systems, user training sessions, and technical support during launch. The company continues to provide ongoing maintenance along with 24/7 technical assistance.
The system went live in early 2025 as part of an expanding adoption among Tideworks’ clients in South Florida.
