The Florida citrus industry has received significant financial support in 2025, with nearly $140 million allocated during the recent legislative session. The largest portion of this funding is directed to the Citrus Research and Field Trial Foundation, Inc. (CRAFT), which focuses on conducting field trials to evaluate treatments for citrus greening, identify disease-resistant varieties, and support commercial citrus production in Florida.
CRAFT has opened its application cycle for Year Seven Programs, which will be available until October 3 at 5 p.m. EST. These programs now include “Emerging Varieties” and “Fast Track” options. Information about program details, payment structures, and applications can be found through CRAFT’s official channels.
Another $35 million from the appropriations is designated for initiatives such as the Citrus Recovery Program, marketing efforts by the Florida Department of Citrus, development of new citrus varieties, and increasing propagation of trees and seedlings that are tolerant or resistant to greening.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently closed a public comment period on August 4 regarding SoilCea’s CarriCea T1 rootstock registration. The product remains under review by the EPA; if approved, it could help growers address citrus greening and produce stronger trees.
