Gonzalo Mejia, a Realtor with significant experience in the industry, emphasizes that his approach to real estate centers on building wealth and supporting clients, particularly those from minority communities. Mejia, who owns multiple investment properties himself, highlights the impact that real estate can have on individuals’ lives.
“What drives me is wealth building,” Mejia said. “I’ve done it myself. I own investment properties – a primary and a second home. I’ve seen how it changes people’s lives.”
He believes that empowering clients through information is crucial for their success. “People don’t know what they don’t know,” he explained. “One of my favorite moments is when a [customer] says, ‘I never thought of that.’ That’s when I know I’m adding value.”
Mejia has held leadership roles at various levels in the Realtor community. He is a former president of the MLS board and currently serves as a director on his local board. At the state level, he has chaired several committees for Florida Realtors and is a longtime director with the organization. Nationally, Mejia serves as the 2024 Chair of the NAR Diversity Committee and has completed leadership academies at all three levels.
On an international scale, Mejia observes growing interest in Jacksonville from investors in South America and Canada, citing affordability and favorable rental regulations as key attractions.
“My superpower? Making people feel welcome,” he said. “Before there’s a business relationship, there’s a personal one. That’s where trust starts.”
Mejia holds the Board-Certified Professional endorsement from Florida Realtors and contributed to developing this certification as part of its task force. He sees this credential as vital for distinguishing committed professionals in an evolving market.
“Buyers work with multiple agents if they believe we’re interchangeable,” he noted. “Being a Florida Realtors’ Board Certified Professional is a way to show that I’m not only involved, but that I take excellence seriously. It’s how I show I’m the real deal.”
