The Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA) has urged Senate Democrats to support a clean continuing resolution (CR) to end the current government shutdown. The organization emphasized that the proposed CR is the same bipartisan agreement that both parties supported six months ago.
Tarren Bragdon, President and CEO of the Foundation for Government Accountability, stated, "The clean CR before the Senate is nothing more than a date change on the same bipartisan spending plan Republicans and Democrats agreed to back in March. This is not the end of democracy or an ‘authoritarian power grab’—it’s a generous status quo agreement." Bragdon added, "Now, instead of accepting that offer and keeping the government open, Democrats are forcing a shutdown while demanding $1.5 trillion in new spending on fringe leftist priorities that the American people already rejected."
Bragdon further commented, "Voters have spoken loud and clear: They don’t want taxpayer dollars funding welfare for illegal aliens or the billions more wasted through fraud and abuse. It’s time to pass a clean CR, reopen the government, and allow both parties to negotiate a funding plan without holding the American people hostage to partisan, unpopular demands."
The FGA is a non-profit think tank that promotes public policy solutions at the state and federal levels.
