In June 2025, Bob Hochmuth was inducted into the National Hall of Fame at an annual conference, recognizing his contributions to agriculture in Suwannee Valley. His work has been pivotal for many farmers, including the Rooneys and Belibasis.
The Rooneys, who transitioned from city life to farming, benefited from Bob’s expertise when he helped them resolve a soil pH issue that significantly improved their blueberry farm. Similarly, Belibasis credits Bob with guiding him into hydroponics, leading to decades of success in growing tomatoes.
Bob is known as “the watermelon guy” for his connections with UF/IFAS and his role in supporting the industry statewide. His reputation is built on testimonials from farmers who consider him essential to their business success.
As assistant director at NFREC-SV, Bob has transformed it into a research and Extension hub with significant grant-funded projects. He also led fundraising efforts for a pavilion that hosts events uniting people across Florida.
The University of Florida’s Senior Vice President for Agriculture and Natural Resources praised Bob’s dedication: “Because Bob values your trust and respect so much, I hope you’ll join me in congratulating him on his national recognition.”
