The Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA) recently expressed approval of the US House of Representatives’ decision to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. This legislative measure seeks to bolster the integrity of elections by mandating states to acquire proof of citizenship from individuals registering to vote in federal elections. Furthermore, the bill proposes additional civil and criminal penalties for election officials who fail to secure documented proof of US citizenship from voters, thereby addressing enforcement gaps in existing laws.
