James Madison Institute supports legal action against Biden administration over CHIP policy

JMI commends Governor DeSantis for protecting Florida’s CHIP program

The James Madison Institute (JMI) has expressed approval of the Agency for Health Care Administration's decision to file a lawsuit against the Biden Administration. The suit aims to counter what JMI describes as an attempt to undermine Florida’s ability to expand health insurance coverage for children effectively.

Florida’s Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), the first of its kind in the United States, has been structured to allow policymakers to expand it, most recently last year. According to JMI, this system demonstrates how access to care can be increased without causing financial strain on taxpayer-funded programs. The institute asserts that this approach safeguards both children's health and fiscal stability.

Sal Nuzzo, Senior Vice President at The James Madison Institute, stated: “Members of the media and others on the Left have disappointingly constructed a false narrative regarding the suit. Their lies and obfuscations are disappointing, but sadly not surprising. Florida is doing more to increase access to care in a responsible manner than any other state in the U.S.”

Nuzzo further commented on federal policies: “If only Washington, D.C. would take a cue from Florida policymakers, they might see a way forward on healthcare that doesn’t send the entire fiscal health of the country off a cliff.”

JMI argues that the Biden-Harris Administration's order requiring "continuous coverage" would negatively impact those who need help from Florida’s CHIP program by creating unnecessary complications.
