Florida awards over $36 million in bonuses to new law enforcement recruits

FloridaCommerce announced today that more than 5,400 bonuses have been awarded through the Florida Law Enforcement Recruitment Bonus Program. The state has welcomed over 400 recruits from jurisdictions such as Illinois, California, and New York. This initiative aligns with Governor Ron DeSantis' commitment to prioritizing public safety in Florida.

“Under Governor Ron DeSantis’ leadership, Florida is and will remain a pro law enforcement state,” said Florida Secretary of Commerce J. Alex Kelly. “This program continues to attract officers eager to pursue a career in law enforcement to our great state because we believe in supporting those who serve and protect our communities.”

To date, 5,407 checks of $5,000 each have been distributed, totaling more than $36 million awarded through the program. The Law Enforcement Recruitment Bonus Program has attracted nearly 1,340 law enforcement recruits this year alone. Officers from 49 states and U.S. territories have relocated to Florida due to the program.

In addition to the $5,000 recruitment bonus, benefits for becoming a Florida law enforcement officer include financial stability, upward mobility, excellent health and retirement benefits, student loan forgiveness programs, home loan programs, adoption grants, and more.
