Commissioner Manny Diaz announces August books of the month to promote literacy

Tallahassee, Fla., August 16, 2024 – Today, Florida Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr., announced August’s chosen books for the Commissioner’s Book of the Month, a monthly reading challenge aimed at promoting literacy and reading engagement in preK-12 schools.

Each month, Commissioner Diaz highlights five recommended books—one per selected grade range. For this month’s selection, the Commissioner recommended books included on Florida’s B.E.S.T. Standards reading list for grades K-12.

“As the school year begins, students should be reading books that make them excited to learn and prepare them for the school year,” said Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr. “I encourage all students to open a book this month and ready their mind for classes over the next school year.”
