FWC schedules public meeting on aquatic habitat management in Kissimmee Chain of Lakes

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) will hold a public meeting to discuss aquatic habitat management in the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes on Wednesday, September 18. The meeting is scheduled from 6-8 p.m. at the UF/IFAS Extension Office, located at 1921 Kissimmee Valley Lane, Kissimmee, FL, 34744.

The primary objective of this meeting is to gather input and feedback from stakeholders regarding invasive plant management and aquatic habitat management activities conducted over the past six months. Additionally, proposed management activities for the next 12 months will be discussed. Public input from various user groups on the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes—which includes lakes Kissimmee, Hatchineha, Cypress, Jackson, Marian, Tohopekaliga, and East Lake Tohopekaliga—is essential for developing a balanced approach to managing aquatic habitats and invasive plants.

Attendees will have the opportunity to comment on and ask questions about the aquatic habitat management activities. The FWC’s Fish, Wildlife, and Habitat Management Plan for the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes is available online at MyFWC.com/AquaticPlants by clicking “Learn More” under “Lake Management Plans.”

For general information about water bodies, fishing forecasts, virtual tours, annual work plans, boat ramp information, and more details can be found on the “What’s Happening on My Lake” website at MyFWC.com/Lakes.
