Florida ports highlight progress and upcoming initiatives

Special thanks were extended to all Florida port directors and seaport professionals who recently participated in the annual board meeting in Pensacola. The Port of Pensacola hosted the event, showcasing both the city's beauty and the port's benefits.

Representative Kim Berfield, the keynote speaker, engaged with port leaders, highlighting her deep understanding of Florida’s seaport system's importance.

Florida’s seaports play a crucial role in delivering essential commodities such as fuel, food, and medical supplies. They collaborate closely with transportation partners, particularly truck drivers, who are vital to Florida’s supply chain. During National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, these trucking partners are acknowledged for their contributions to the state's economy, safety, and quality of life.

There is significant activity at Florida’s seaports involving infrastructure improvements, increased cruise operations, and a high volume of cargo vessels. Updated economic data reflecting this growth will be available soon.

As preparations begin for the 2025 Legislative Session starting on March 4th, efforts will focus on leveraging opportunities within Florida's maritime industry. Organizational sessions will follow November elections with Interim Committee Week meetings commencing shortly after.

Port Everglades has notably improved its operational performance ranking from No. 116 in 2021 to No. 65 in 2024 on the Container Port Performance Index by the World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence. The port is now ranked No. 2 in the United States for trade with Latin America and serves 150 ports across 70 countries.

Additionally, JAXPORT CEO Eric Green will be inducted into the First Coast Business Hall of Fame by the Florida Council on Economic Education for his notable business and civic achievements.

The continued support of Florida’s seaports is appreciated.
