Evan Power, chairman of the Republican Party of Florida, said that John Morgan, founder of Morgan & Morgan, cannot rebrand what he described as failed socialist ideas and expect voters in Florida to embrace them.
"Let's be real, John: you can't slap a new label on the same failed ideas and expect a revival. If it quacks like a duck, it's still a duck—and you're still a Democrat. Florida doesn't want what you're selling," said Power. "We hear you've got offices in Massachusetts—maybe it's time to pack up and take your political fantasies north. John Morgan knows the Democrat and Socialist parties can't thrive in the Free State of Florida. Many Floridians have fled the very systems he praises, seeking liberty and opportunity here. You can't rename failed ideas and expect Floridians to embrace them with open arms. We're not on the same team. The Republican Party of Florida is committed to keeping Florida the freest state in the nation. John may not be on our team, but maybe we can help him name his new one. Something that reflects his values—like ‘United Ambulance Chasers, The Puff and Pay Party or The Blunt Redistribution Party.'"
In a press release, the Republican Party of Florida responded to comments from trial attorney John Morgan, who praised socialism and floated the idea of creating a new political party during a Capital Tiger Bay Club event. According to Power, Morgan’s remarks were recycled Democratic and socialist ideas repackaged for Florida voters. He said Morgan’s values already align with the Democrat, Socialist, or Green parties and that such ideologies have no place in Florida. Power added that many Floridians have fled socialist-leaning states to seek freedom and opportunity in the "Free State of Florida."
According to a Politico report, prominent Florida trial lawyer and Democratic fundraiser John Morgan has announced plans to launch his own political party, the "Capitalist Party," positioning himself as a centrist alternative ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial race. While Morgan has long supported Democratic causes, he now claims to represent voters disillusioned with both parties. His entry into the race could act as a spoiler for the GOP by siphoning moderate and independent voters who might otherwise support the Republican nominee. In a state trending red, Morgan’s candidacy could disrupt the GOP’s path to victory by fracturing the non-Democratic vote.
