As Hurricane Milton approaches, the Florida Health Care Association (FHCA) is prioritizing the safety and well-being of residents and staff at its member nursing centers and assisted living facilities. Emmett Reed, CEO of FHCA, stated that these facilities are coordinating with local authorities to prepare for the storm. They are ready to either evacuate or shelter in place as necessary.
Reed emphasized that providers are implementing emergency plans and protocols to protect those in their care. This includes ensuring that emergency supplies and power provisions are available. "The safety and well-being of residents and staff remain our highest priority," Reed said.
Acknowledging the dedication of long-term caregivers, many of whom have been affected by previous storms like Helene, Reed expressed gratitude for their continued service. "These healthcare heroes are continuing to provide compassionate care," he noted.
In addition to on-the-ground efforts by providers, FHCA's Emergency Response Team is actively working with state officials and utility partners. They aim to offer ongoing updates and resources through daily briefings and digital channels. "Rest assured; we are ready to face this storm together," Reed assured.
