Governor suspends tolls in preparation for Hurricane Milton

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—Governor Ron DeSantis has announced the suspension of tolls across Central Florida, West Florida, and Alligator Alley to aid evacuations ahead of Hurricane Milton. The suspension is set for seven days starting at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 7, 2024.

“At my direction, tolls are suspended today as of 10:30 AM,” stated Governor Ron DeSantis. “With evacuation orders imminent, this will help keep traffic moving and be one less thing for people to worry about ahead of Milton.”

Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Jared W. Perdue added that the department is committed to ensuring safe and quick travel during the hurricane preparations. “Suspending tolls across the central and west part of the state and Alligator Alley offers an additional option for families to easily get out of the storm’s direct path,” he said.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) along with Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise (FTE) will suspend toll collection until Monday, October 14 at noon. This period may be extended if conditions require it.

The facilities affected by this order include various counties such as Collier, Broward, Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Osceola, Orange, Lake, Seminole, Sumter and Polk Counties. Major roadways like Alligator Alley and Suncoast Parkway are among those listed.

FDOT is also implementing Emergency Shoulder Use along sections of Interstate 4 (I-4) and Interstate 75 (I-75) to facilitate traffic flow for evacuees.
