Florida Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr., has announced the selected books for October as part of the Commissioner’s Book of the Month initiative. This monthly reading challenge aims to encourage literacy and engagement among students in preK-12 schools by recommending one book per grade range.
Commissioner Diaz acknowledged the recent difficulties faced by Floridians due to hurricanes Helene and Milton but emphasized the resilience of Florida's students. He stated, “Floridians have experienced challenges this fall due to hurricanes Helene and Milton, but Florida’s students are resilient. As Floridians recover from these storms, I encourage families to spend time reading together.”
The list of recommended books for October 2024 is available on the Commissioner’s Book of the Month page on the FDOE website.
