The Department of Children and Families has announced the opening of a Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP) location for residents of Dixie, Gilchrist, and Levy counties. This initiative will be available from Friday, November 1 through Sunday, November 3. The program aims to provide food assistance to those affected by Hurricane Helene who are not currently receiving aid through the regular Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
Secretary Shevaun Harris stated that individuals in these counties who have pre-registered online but have not completed their D-SNAP phone interview can attend the on-site location for an in-person interview. However, those who have already completed a phone interview do not need to attend.
The department is reopening pre-registration for those who did not previously register online. Individuals are encouraged to complete this process before attending the site for their interview. Pre-registration is accessible at www.myflfamilies.com/DSNAP during the specified dates.
The D-SNAP location will be at the Suwannee River Youth Fair Pavilion in Fanning Springs, Florida. The site will operate from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. over the three-day period.
It is important to note that current SNAP recipients are not eligible for D-SNAP and should refrain from visiting the location. Additionally, applicants approved via telephone interviews will receive their EBT cards by mail and do not need to visit the site. Residents outside Dixie, Gilchrist, or Levy counties will also not be served at this location.
Further D-SNAP locations will open in other approved counties with announcements made as they become available.
Media planning to cover the event should contact the Department’s Press Office ahead of time and note that interviews are only available on November 1.
