Port Tampa Bay conducts annual hurricane preparedness exercise

Port Tampa Bay recently conducted its 12th Annual Hurricane Exercise in collaboration with the U.S. Coast Guard Southeast and the U.S. National Weather Service. The exercise, held in early May, is a part of Port Tampa Bay's efforts to prepare for hurricane season and enhance its resilience against severe weather events.

As a significant energy gateway for the state, Port Tampa Bay plays a crucial role in community recovery following major storms. The annual event attracts representatives from various sectors including maritime, law enforcement, government, public safety, and emergency response.

This year's exercise focused on post-storm activities such as surveying port channels. Port Tampa Bay was among the first ports nationwide to earn the "Storm Ready" certification from the National Weather Service. Over 100 participants from the port community and partner organizations were involved in this year's exercise.

During hurricane season, Port Tampa Bay will continue collaborating with partnering agencies and tenants to reduce severe weather impacts on operations.
