Port of Pensacola Director Clark Merritt has stepped down from his position. Merritt had been at the helm since 2021 when former Pensacola Mayor Grover Robinson appointed him following the promotion of former Port Director Amy Miller to deputy city administrator.
During his 13-year tenure in leadership roles, Merritt oversaw significant changes at the Port of Pensacola. As Port Director, he played a key role in boosting cargo growth and vessel activity, benefiting Northwest Florida's economy with contributions from companies like GE Vernova and Cemex. Under his guidance, construction on the American Magic headquarters facility progressed significantly, dock construction is set to begin on the port's east side, and extensive road and rail infrastructure projects are underway.
Merritt joined the city in 2013 as deputy port director and later served as port business development manager before becoming port director. Prior to his city roles, Merritt was a naval officer with active duty tours in tactical aviation squadrons during the first Gulf War and as maintenance officer for the U.S. Navy Blue Angels. He retired from the reserves as a Commander after over 22 years of service.
“We appreciate Clark Merritt’s work with the city and the Port of Pensacola over the years. He has been a valuable asset to us. We wish him only the best in his future endeavors,” said a statement from the City of Pensacola.
